I love my food allergy & gluten free community. It's a family.
A support network. A mutual understanding. A place to learn from, grow, share, and thrive.
I can't imagine where I would be without all of YOU. Yes, I share here and try to help inspire... but I have learned so much from YOU. Your feedback, your comments, your ideas.
Thank you!

Spread the word!
I am reading to my daughter's class on Thursday from the Princess and the Peanut and also I did a blog post about FARE's Amicus brief in the 504 appeal case currently in the 3rd circuit court.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter broke food allergy awareness coloring pages, bookmarks, and food allergy children books to her preschool today along with her "This Princess Has Food Allergies" shirt!
ReplyDeleteI already did a small presentation to both my kindergartener's class and my 4th grader's class. On Friday I'm doing an assembly for the entire 3rd grade as well. We also had Kyle Dine come to the school a few weeks ago!
ReplyDeleteI try to remind people in a friendly manner that things they love like coconut oil can be deadly.
ReplyDeleteI started a team for the FARE Buffalo NY walk in honor of my son with multiple food allergies. I continue to share helpful allergy info facts to family & friend through social media. I recently forwarded Allergy Home School link to my son's school nurse who then forwarded to other school nurses in the district.
ReplyDeleteI'm posting things to my FB page for my friends to see
ReplyDeleteWe share info, as often as possible, and always happily answer questions that come up.
ReplyDeleteHi Keeley - Love your blog and awesome ideas on Pinterest. I bring awareness by sending food allergy books to my son's preschool.
ReplyDeleteSharing through Facebook and speaking with friends
ReplyDeleteWe share info daily, on Thursday the 15 I am going to my non allergy daughter school to speak about food allergy to over 600 students, I have the bookmarks and certificates from FAARE to hand out. I have also been posting fact on facebook
ReplyDeleteI'm posting and sharing info on FB, and also talking to the people who come in "food contact" with my son (day camp staff, teachers, after-school care staff, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for this community. We always try to share info with friends and family, but stress a little consideration goes a long way.
ReplyDeleteI talk about my diet changes while I'm breastfeeding. It really baffles people.
ReplyDeleteI send out the food allergy thank you cards. They not only show my appreciation but contain food allergy information.

ReplyDeleteI help to spread the word about support groups and allergy awareness info in my area! I am also a health coach who supports moms and families after a food allergy diagnosis. By the way I love the food allergy thank you note idea above!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is our first allergy awareness week. Trying to spread the word! Thanks for all that you do for the FA community.
ReplyDeleteToday I posted a blog post about Food Allergy Awareness week, including an infographic from FARE ( http://chaosandconfections.blogspot.com/2014/05/food-allergy-awareness-week.html ). I also pack allergy safe lunches for my little guy and tween daily, and am never hesitant to talk about their allergies with anyone who asks. Spreading information is one excellent way to help keep our kids safe and healthy!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance! This is for my little boy! :)
ReplyDeleteI changed my cover photo on FB to the "I love someone with food allergies" banner from FARE and have been sharing their fact info graphs on FB as well. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteMy son has a peanut allergy and will be going to Kindy in the Fall. Having more resources to help him and other understand life-threatening allergies would be great!
ReplyDeleteReady for day summer camp that is peanut free..and allergy friendly.
ReplyDeleteKeely. I love your lunches. I am a busy mom of 4 (working full time and attending college). I think you are amazing to do this for your daughter, working full time as well. I try to do something creative every week.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter (allergic to tn/pn) made her own lunch last night (age 11). She likes to look at your examples and create them for herself. She decided to make her sister's lunch (age 7) last night, too. She used flower shaped cookie cutters to cut pepperoni's and cheese and arranged them to look pretty with her Ritz crackers. She then wrote her sister two notes. She whispered to me about it this am. I can't wait to hear about it today.
I am not very good about spreading awareness, but I try to talk to my friends and family so they better understand my daughters allergies.
ReplyDeleteSharing through facebook and talking to other parents
ReplyDeleteThrough my blog www.bentosonthebayou.com !
ReplyDeleteWe bought allergy awareness books for the kid's school library. They were also able to share them with the class and read them during circle time. The younger kids were so excited to be allergy-helpers after reading the books and police their parents about peanut butter.
ReplyDeleteI talk to my family and friend and through facebook. I would like people to be more aware.
ReplyDeleteI always bring gluten food to parties !
ReplyDeleteThanks for this opportunity to win some amazing items! I love your blog, IG photos, and all you tips.

ReplyDeleteI always ask if anyone has allergies before bringing a snack or treat to one my kids classes or soccer games etc.
ReplyDeleteEducating about cross-contamination and how much of a risk it is. Most people just don't understand that crumbs matter!
ReplyDeleteThis was a very creative way to spread awareness :)

ReplyDeleteI answer questions and educate constantly to anyone and everyone interested.
I advocate and educate at my children's school. I provide useful informative links, blog posts, and non-food alternative ideas. I provide a safe snack list that includes the restrictions of ALL the children in class (peanut, egg, sugar, diabetes/low carb, as well as, gluten). I post. I share my story.
I'm often the first call friends make after they leave the doctors office with newly diagnosed allergies. I invite them over and make lists of safe foods, safe brands, meal ideas, etc.
ReplyDeleteI was introduced to this wonderful community because of my amazing little guy. He is Dairy/lactose free. He will be starting school soon and some of these items would work really well for him. Thanks for the opportunity to get something! :)
