{Christmas Countdown} Advent Lunches: Eight Maids A Milking

Only eight more days until Christmas! I can hardly believe it.

This is our third year counting down the days in December with our Advent Lunches. Since we hit 12 days left, Little Miss asked I count down the 12 Days of Christmas song in her school lunch. I reminded her that some of the days fell on weekends and some would be tricky, but I'd do my best.

For the "Eight Maids a Milking", I had many ideas pop into my head but executing them was another story. I also found out, in the process, I do not own a cow shaped cookie cutter. lol... So, instead, I decided to have a little fun with it and make a milk carton sandwich instead. Heh heh...

Little Miss thought it was hilarious, of course. Since I don't eat dairy, she also told me I wasn't allowed to have any of her sandwich (even though it's made with dairy free ingredients). Silly girl!

Little Miss "milk carton" sandwich is made from Udi's gluten, dairy, nut, & soy free bread. It has turkey & mayo inside. I used crust cut-outs to do the detailing and letters, with a dab of mayo underneath them to act like "glue" to adhere them to the sammie.

Also packed are raspberries stuffed with Enjoy Life mini chips and a cup of carrot & radish sticks. Lunch is packed in an EasyLunchboxes container.

  2. One problem, it's not a countdown prior to Christmas! The first day of Christmas IS Christmas, the second day of Christmas is the day after ... etc. The 12th day of Christmas is January 5th and then there's Three Kings Day on the 6th ... also known as Epiphany (however, Epiphany is typically celebrated as "Epiphany Sunday" in church on a Sunday). It is traditional in some countries to give loved ones their last Christmas gift on Three Kings Day. Very cute idea, but Advent is prior to Christmas and the song has nothing to do with Advent ... Google it!

    1. Though I appreciate your insight, I do realize how the Days of Christmas work - but my daughter wanted me to do the song countdown. If you followed the links to my past years advent lunches, we do in fact do an advent countdown each year counting down the days until Christmas. This year, when we got to 12, she wanted to include the song themes. Thanks for your comment - you can scroll through the past three years of our ADVENT lunches here. http://www.keeleymcguire.com/search/label/advent
