Lunch Made Easy: First of December!

Thursday marks the First of December! Can you believe it? Where did the year go??

It also means 24 days left on our Christmas Countdown!

I'm pretty much in love with this lunch, by the way :) lol

Inspiration came as soon as I bought these Santa head picks last week. I couldn't wait any longer - I wanted to make him!! lol

Santa's body is a sunbutter & honey sandwich, cut out with a circular stainless cookie cutter. I then made his limbs just using the remainder of the bread pieces. His feet & gloves are from the crust.
He's topped with provolone cheese and decorated with my Betty Crocker Food Writer pens for coloring. (The sunbutter sort of acts as a "glue" to hold all the bits together, in conjunction with the pick.)

She has a mini-york peppermint patty as as dessert treat tucked under Santa's head.
Around Santa's feet are some beef jerky bits. (One of Little Miss's FAVORITE things on the planet - Beef Jerky and/or Slim Jim's. hehe)

The "presents" are apple pieces. I cut away the peel to make it look like ribbon. The bows are homemade picks - just bow cliparts I printed off the computer attached to picks, similar to yesterday's top hat.

Top right are the rest of the apple dices.
Bottom right are some organic baby carrots and a holiday liner with cucumber slices.
The babybel cheese is on top - I hand carved into the wax today's magic countdown number 24 keeping with the advent theme.

Packed inside a EasyLunchBox.

  3. Thank you both! :)

@Candy Girl - I know, right!? LOL She was still up while I was making Santa so she saw the beginnings of him. I know she's going to flip in the AM. I know she'll save the pick though, haha. She loves to bring them home (I wash them off) and she adds them to her "collection box" of special treasures. hehe

  4. Question for you both of you.... since I don't send the girls to school with lunch yet ( both are just in preschool for a couple hours 2 days a week) I was wondering how well these lunches stay together. It seems like it would be impossible for the to survive a child carrying them to school. Any tricks you guys use?

  5. I'm usually pretty anal about packing the suckers in tight so nothing has a chance to move! The advent lunches have been a little more "free", if you know what I mean.
I send hers with her in lunch bag that keeps it flat, or using our Easylunchbox cooler bag too, so that it never tilts or is turned sideways.
They're not leak proof, so that's why a lot of times I'll put yogurts, etc inside a smaller container with a lid inside the Easylunchbox. There are days they get flipped around, natrually, she's 6 and likes to run or throw her backpack upsidown with lunch inside (lol) but she's pretty good about it too because she loves showing her friends her lunches. :)
It really just depends what you're putting in there too. Like Santa in today's lunch, the sunbutter & pick will keep him together. The present apples and beef jerky bits will probably slide around - another reason I always show her her lunch in the AM too, so she can see it together incase it does get shook around.
Sorry this answer got long, lol, but like I said, I normally pack everything in there pretty tight - so that the food hold the other foods in place. So it just depends how you use them. :)

  9. Thank You Everyone SO Much!!

@Kelly - I cannot take full credit for the "presents" :) I saw the idea out on the wonderful interwebs a long time ago and merely executed from memory and made my own picks. I love them too though!
