My Date with Jerome Bettis "The Bus" {Football Legend & Severe Allergy Advocate}
My Date with Jerome "The Bus" Bettis: NFL Running Back, Super Bowl Winner, Future Hall-of-Famer, & Severe Allergy Advocate.
Okay, it wasn't a real date but rather an interview. Never the less, this "NFL junkie of a Mama" was SO stoked to be speaking to such an amazing person about his own journey dealing with food allergies and anaphylaxis, as well as, the new The Severe Allergy & Anaphylaxis Playbook he developed with Auvi-Q.
For a little backstory, Jerome has battled asthma since being a teenager and discovered his own severe food allergy after having an anaphylactic reaction to shrimp at his aunt's house at the age of fourteen.
Fourteen.
Eating shrimp fried rice. A dish he said he had eaten before without issue, then suddenly anaphylaxis occurred.
Scary.
At the hospital, they told him he was allergic to shellfish and prescribed him his first epinephrine injector.
Fast forward: Jerome went on to have an impressive career at the University of Notre Dame, being drafted to the NFL in the first round by the St. Louis Rams, and even winning the Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As mentioned above, he's now teamed up with Auvi-Q to create The Severe Allergy & Anaphylaxis Playbook. The book is a 16 page guide of "valuable plays" that people with severe allergies can use to help avoid allergens and be prepared in case of an allergic reaction.
I love this Playbook! It's simple. It's realistic. It's great for kids, parents, and caregivers. It lists Plays for dealing with dining out, barbecues, Plays for the House, Plays for School, and even travel.
If you follow our posts, you know my daughter (Little Miss) loves NFL Football almost as much as I do. So when I showed her this Playbook and told her it was written by an NFL Player with food allergies... well... she thought that was pretty cool! It got her attention right away to listen up and "know the Plays"!
My apologies too, at the 2:55 mark one of the other bloggers on the line, waiting, speaks into their phone to someone at their house... so just ignore that blurp during my datewith Jerome. lol
