Lunch Made Easy: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

I've been waiting to do this lunch all week! Today's lunch is inspired by Little Miss's class at school - They are learning about Caterpillars & Butterflies. They also just finished reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and even created their own class story called "The Very Hungry Kid" (lol, so cute!).

If you recall in the book, the caterpillar eats through different foods on different days - some good food, some bad ;) and eventually turns into a butterfly.

For her lunch I printed a card off the computer and typed "Hope you are HUNGRY! Can you eat through all this food? Love, Mama xoxo"

I created the caterpillar sandwich cutting circular shapes for the body and stacking them (bread, cheese, bologna, repeat).
I created the caterpillar face from a piece of food color dyed provalone and colored his eyes, nose, and antennas. (There's a cherry tomoato behind it.)
There are apples, strawberries & cheese just like in the book, oh and some cantalope dices with a few blueberries scattered to fill. I created the hole in each of them, just like the pictures in the book, using a straw.
You can't forget the leaf he eats making him feel all better! I used a spinach leaf again cutting the hole using a straw.

Since he turns into a beautiful butterfly, I created one using a snack baggy and clothes pin. I filled the baggy with rainbow goldfish crackers and drew a little face on the pin. The antennas were created using a twisty tie.

There you have it - A Very Hungy Caterpillar Lunch. :)

Little Miss LOVED it when I showed her this morning. She said she can't wait to show her teacher and class.
